Martín Volcano

At the southern end of the Cumbre Vieja, you can discover one of the most beautiful volcanoes on the island of La Palma. Its eruption was in 1646 creating a beautiful and peculiar crater of reddish, yellow and black colors, whose lava flowed towards the eastern slope of the island and covered a large area of land towards the sea, currently being a bordering part of the municipality of Fuencaliente and Mazo . Witnesses to this eruption defined it as a volcano that created a lot of destruction to their growing and grazing lands. For this reason, as great devotees of the image of the Virgin of Las Nieves, the inhabitants took it out in a procession to ask it to stop the eruption. Miraculously, the next day, the snow covered it causing the extinction of this eruption.
